Employee Is Injured in Fall from Trailer

At approximately 12:43 p.m. on May 29, 2009, Employee #1 was working for an employer, specializing in the manufacture of structural steel components, such as columns and beams. He was located in the employer's storage yard, placing dunnage on top of the first layer of a load of 500-pound structural steel columns that had been loaded onto a flat-bed trailer. As he was loading dunnage onto the trailer, the columns shifted and Employee #1 fell 5 feet to the ground. Simultaneously, one of the columns also fell off the trailer and landed on top of him. Employee #1 was taken to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, where he was hospitalized and treated for a cut to his forehead, chest injuries, and a broken left arm.
