Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202506606
Event: 05/06/2008
Employee Pinned Against Dock by Trailer

An employee was backing his trailer to a dock. The employee noticed that the dock's truck restraint devices (Truck Locks) were in the up position. The employee had backed his trailer far enough that the bumper on the trailer engaged the restraint device, which prevented the trailer from backing any closer to the dock. The employee exited his truck without setting the brake. He walked to the rear of his trailer and jumped on the restraint to release it from the bumper. When he jumped on one of the restraints, it released and let the trailer move backwards. The trailer crushed the employee against the dock. He was hospitalized for his injuries.
