Employee Amputates Fingertip in Metal Rolling Machine

On April 17, 2008, Employee #1 was working with a Tauring metal rolling machine and sustained an amputation. The Tauring machine has no visible model or serial number and is located near the southwest corner of the production area. According to the Production Manager, the rolls of the Tauring machine were not guarded at the time of the accident. Following the accident a cage was added to guard the rolls. At approximately 6:45 a.m., Employee #1 was attempting to feed a piece of 0.125 inch by two inch flat stock into the rolls and failed to release his hands prior to the feed entering the rolls. Employee #1 sustained an amputation to his left pinky fingertip and was rushed to the Kaiser Vallejo emergency room by a fellow employee. There were no witnesses to the accident.
