Employee Is Injured in Fall from Scaffolding

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on September 5, 2008, Employee #1 was caulking holes in the exterior of a two-story apartment building in San Diego. Employee #1 was on the east side of the building, working on a four-stage scaffold, when he climbed the outside of the scaffold, using the guardrails as a ladder, in order to reach the fourth stage. The scaffolding mid-rail on the exterior side shifted, with the rail dislodging, and Employee #1 fell approximately 20 feet to the ground. Employee #1 landed partially on the dirt and partially on the sidewalk. Employee #1 was transported to Palomar Hospital, where he underwent treatment for a fractured arm, jaw, and cranium, and was hospitalized for more than 24 hours. Employee #1 was a lather with Padilla Construction doing business as Garis, a Lath and Plaster Company.
