Investigation Summary
At 8:25 a.m., on June 19th, 2007, an employee belonging to Anthony's Seafood Group was seriously injured when his hand made contact with the agitators of a horizontal food mixer (AMFE Model 510 serial number 960826). The mixer was equipped with a safety interlock grate with parallel spaced at 4 inch intervals. The injured worker was scraping the inside walls of the bin with a spatula and reaching between the bars, when he inadvertently made contact with the rotating agitators. His hand was drawn into the mixer and he sustained a serious injury to his right hand. The victim was hospitalized for treatment in excess of 24 hours at SHARP MEMORIAL HOSPITAL (Frost St. San Diego, Ca.) The victim was treated for deep lacerations and soft tissue damage to his hand and fingers. Anthony's Seafood Group operates several restaurants throughout Southern California; however, they have a centralized commercial kitchen in an industrial building located at 5232 Lovelock Street in San Diego California. The victim was a regular full-time hourly employee, and the employer met the reporting requirement.
