Event: 10/06/2007
Employee crushed when transfer table collapses, later dies

On October 6, 2007, Employee #1, an electrician-in-training at Alabama River Pulp, was working on electrical wires under a Layboy transfer table loaded with approximately 8,000 lb of pulp. The table suddenly collapsed on top of him. Employee #1 sustained crushing injuries, but he was able to crawl out from under the table and call for help on his cell phone. Employee #1 was transported to the hospital, where he died on October 23, 2007, as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
