Investigation Summary
On November 15, 2006, Employee #1, a carpenter apprentice, was using a Skil saw, Model Number HD 77M, with a 7.25-inch carbide tip blade to cut a wood joist block that measured 2.5 inches wide by 14 feet long. The saw personally belonged to Employee #1. As he cut the wood joist block, the saw became caught in a knot in the wood. This caused the wood to kick back and Employee #1's left hand to come into contact with the blade. Employee #1 was hospitalized and treated for a cut on his left thumb. The accident investigation revealed that there were no problems with the saw and the safety guard was in place.
