Employee's Foot Is Injured When Sprayed with Pressure Washer

At 12:00 p.m. on May 4, 2009, Employee #1 was operating a pressure washer. The employee turned on a 5,000 psi portable cold water pressure washer (MI-T-M Corp, Model Number CWC-5004) with one hand as he was holding the spray gun/lance combo with the other hand. The safety lock was off, and the trigger was depressed. As the water came through, it sprayed across his right foot. The pressurized water penetrated the boot just over where the steel toe box terminates. The employee sustained a serious injury to his foot and was transported to Central Occupational Medicine Provider (COMP) then transferred to Loma Linda University Medical Center. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
