Employee Is Injured When Scraped by Motor Home Bumper

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on February 24, 2009, an employee was unloading a motor home at the designated area at the auto shop in Riverside, CA. He released the lever of the winch and the cable completely unspooled approximately 50 feet down with the motor home attached at the end. The employee sustained a fractured leg when his knee was forcibly scraped by the underside of the motor homes bumper while attempting to stop a 23-ft motor home from rolling down the slope. The owner of the shop called emergency medical services but the employee refused to be transported by the ambulance. A manager and the owner took the employee to Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center where he underwent surgery and in-patient hospitalization for a period of one day.
