Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202447777
Event: 10/02/2007
Employee's Fingers Are Injured by Miter Saw

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on October 2, 2007, Employee #1 was operating an energized compound miter saw, while wearing safety glasses and street shoes. He was holding the material to be cut with his left hand and lowering the saw blade with his right hand. The (retractable) guard over the saw blade did not adjust to the size of the strips (material) being cut. Employee #1 sustained serious injuries to his left ring and middle fingers when they came in contact with the saw blade. When he noticed the blood on his left hand, he went to the office and asked for help. Employee #1 was hospitalized for one day.
