Employee Is Injured in Fall from Parapet

At approximately 10 a.m. on October 10, 2007, an employee was laying a string of decorative holiday lights by walking on a 40-in. wide parapet wall at an elevation of approximately 28-ft above the concrete sidewalk without using any fall protection. As he was laying a string lights line, he stepped backwards and fell off the parapet top east-edge on the cemented sidewalk landing on his right side injuring him seriously. The employee sustained multiple fracture injuries of his right lower arm, shattered right wrist, left pelvic, three right broken ribs and punctured right lung. The employee was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Colton, CA for treatment. Two surgeries were performed, and he was hospitalized for 9 days.
