Employee Amputates Toes While Operating Wire Machine

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on July 27, 2007, Employee #1 was helping the machine operator to clear the jammed wire mesh from the rollers on Wire Mesh Machine Number 3. Employee #1 was standing on one side of the machine and the operator was standing on the other side of the machine. Employee #1 was pushing the wire mesh through the rollers and the operator was pulling the wire mesh on the other side of the rollers. As Employee #1 was pushing the wire mesh, his right foot got caught in the shear point of the machine and caused the amputation of his second and third toe of his right foot. Surgery was required and Employee #1 was hospitalized.
