Employee Fractures Leg in Fall from Ladder

On May 11, 2007, an employee was spray painting on the south side eave of a two story apartment while standing on the upper rung of the ladder. A coworker was holding the ladder down at the bottom. The employee stated that just before the incident, the coworker's cell phone rang and the coworker answered the phone letting go of the ladder. The ladder slid-out from the base and fell to the ground along with the employee on it. The employee landed on the gravel covered area next to the building. Someone came out of the apartment when they heard of the incident and called the emergency medical services. The paramedics came and provided emergency medical aid and transported the employee to Loma Linda University Hospital for surgery and hospitalization for a period of three days. The employee sustained a fractured left femur.
