Employee Amputates Thumb with Miter Saw

At approximately 3:50 p.m. on March 18, 2007, Employee #1 was working for Desert Dream Custom Cabinets in a new home under construction. He was cutting a 3-inch wide by 8-foot long piece of wood with a Makita miter saw. He was holding the piece of wood with his left hand when it slipped. His hand came into contact with the blade of the saw and his left thumb was amputated. He was hospitalized for one day at John F. Kennedy Hospital in Indio, CA.
