Investigation Summary
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on January 21, 2007, Employee #1 and a group of employees were grooming ski trails with Bombardier snowcats, Model Number BR 350. Employee #1 stopped his snowcat near coworker's snowcat, which had mechanical problems. Employee #1 raised the arm rest, opened the driver's door and stepped out onto the vehicle's track. At that moment, the snowcat moved forward running over Employee #1. Employee #1 was killed. Then, the machine proceeded up the mountain and ran toward a tree, where it came to rest. Both the arm rest and the passenger doors were provided with safety switches that set the parking brake when activated. The safety switches on the arm rest and driver's door were by-passed earlier that day.
