Investigation Summary
At approximately 9:45 a.m. on May 28, 2009, an employee was performing his duties of employment as a general labor worker for a family member of a single family residence. The employer was the father-in-law of the owner and was remodeling the house which included the removal and construction of a new front porch. The employee had been employed at the site for a few hours prior to the incident. At the time of the incident, the employee was working on the front porch of the residence removing the roof portion of the porch. Working from a 6-foot Louisville fibrous glass and aluminum ladder, the employee began cutting trusses from the roof using a Dewalt reciprocating saw, Serial Number 195084 207 5049. Upon cutting through one of the trusses, it fell from the roof knocking the employee from the ladder. The employee was hospitalized and treated for a fractured leg. The home owner's father-in-law was the employee's direct supervisor and had left the site to obtain some drinking water when the incident occurred.
