Employee Is Injured When Struck by Falling Trailer

On August 22, 2006, Employee #1, a mechanic with University of California, Davis, Ag- Industrial Services Department, was working on a trailer-mounted power washer located in their east shop. The trailer had been placed into the shop using a forklift and then released. After several hours of work, Employee #1 walked towards the rear of the trailer, and his leg brushed the rear forklift frame. The front end of the trailer then suddenly tilted up. The rear end moved downwards, struck Employee #1's leg, and knocked him to the shop floor. He was hospitalized at Sutter Davis Hospital for a fracture and dislocation of his left hip, which required surgery.
