Four Employees Sustain Fractures in Fall from Trusses

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on January 18, 2007, Employees #1, #2, #3 & #4 were constructing a pole barn, installing 60-ft wooden trusses, while sitting on a braced truss at heights from 17 ft to 27 ft above the ground. All the injured employees were sitting on a truss waiting for the next truss to be maneuvered into place when the truss snapped or came apart with major damage to the top and bottom chords. The trusses had been dragged over uneven ground and then lifted by the peak. None of the employees utilized any form of fall protection. All employees fell to the frozen ground. Employee #1 sustained a broken pelvis. Employee #2 sustained a broken pelvis and back vertebra. Employee #3 sustained a broken ankle and leg. Employee #4 sustained injuries to the head, broken ribs and a broken wrist. All employees were hospitalized.
