Employee Fractures Leg in Fall While Cutting Rebar

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on May 16, 2009, Employee # 1 was working at a municipal solid waste landfill. He was clearing excess dirt from underneath the rebar of a retaining wall in the lower parking lot of the facility, when he and a coworker were instructed to cut four pieces of rebar to approximately 9 feet in length with an 80 degree angle bent in them. Employee # 1 was using an Original Willard Cutter Bender and was pushing down the lever to cut the rebar, when he lost his balance and fell to the ground. He fractured his left leg and was transported by emergency services to the hospital, where he required hospitalization for his injury.
