Employee Is Killed in Fall from Roof

On January 3, 2007, an employee and two coworkers were positioned on a flat roof of a building being demolished. The employee was torch cutting bolts and beams from the steel and concrete structure. During this time, two coworkers were assisting the welder and the cutter. One coworker stepped onto the concrete planks that measured about 24 inches wide and 8 feet plank. The plank snapped, and the employee, who was not wearing a personal fall arrest system, fell about 40 to 45 feet to the interior of the building and rolled another 30 to 35 feet down a steep hillside. The employee was killed.
