Employee Amputates Finger with Worm Drive Saw

At approximately 1:00 p.m. on January 2, 2007, an employee, a framer employed by Eric Broms Construction, Inc, was framing a new garage and an addition to a private residence. He was standing on the scaffold and using a SKILL SAW, 7.25-in. Worm Drive Saw F012HM7702, 13A, 4400 RPM, Model Number HD77M, to cut plywood when the cord got snagged and the saw kicked back and lacerated the tip of his left ring finger without any bone loss. The employee was immediately taken to Simi Valley Hospital by his supervisor and a coworker. After reconstruction of his left ring finger with first-stage thenar flap, the employee was discharged that same day and placed under home care with scheduled subsequent visits to the hospital.
