Investigation Summary

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on August 17, 2010, an employee of Daley's Drywall and Taping, Inc., was working at a commercial jobsite in Palo Alto, CA. He was injured when he fell about five and one-half feet from a scaffold. He was hospitalized at Stanford Hospital for three days with head lacerations and compression fractures of his vertebrae. He underwent continued rehabilitation. The employee said that he could not remember if the wheels on the scaffold were locked, but that it would be his normal practice to lock them and that there is a company requirement that he do so. A coworker and a nearby carpet installer both said that they did not know if the wheels were locked on the scaffold and that they did not observe unsafe activity by the employee who was injured. The accident was reported by the employer's director of safety. No accident related violations were established as a result of this investigation.
