Employee Amputates Thumb While Changing Tire

Employee #1 was using a Baranick, Model Number BF-50, tire changing machine to place a tire on a rim. On the third try, the employee sprayed ether inside the tire and ignited it. As the tire blew up, it snapped on the rim. The employee's right thumb was on the side of the rim and the tire pulled the skin off his thumb. He was transported to the hospital where his thumb was amputated but he did not require hospitalization.
