Employee Injures Hand While Cleaning Running Blender

On June 18, 2007, as part of her job activity Employee #1 was manually cleaning the blending blades of an ice cream manufacturing machine. She did not deenergize the machine, but instead momentarily switched on the controls mounted on the machine, thus injuring her right hand and arm. The victim was admitted on June 18, 2007, treated and discharged on July 2, 2007, from Washington hospital located in Fremont. Based upon the interviews conducted with the employer and documentation developed during the course of this investigation, Employee #1 exposed her right hand to rotating blender blades. She did not deenergize the equipment and triggered the stitching controls on the machine to rotate the blade.
