Employee Fractures Ankle in Fall from Ladder

On May 31, 2007, the employee was standing on the fifth rung of a step ladder and with a crow bar was removing the sheet rock from the ceiling located at a height of approximately 12 feet from grade. As he stretched his right hand to access the sheet rock, part of it began to fall. In an attempt to dodge the falling pieces, he lost balance and fell along with the ladder from an approximate fall distance of 5 feet. The employee was admitted to the hospital on May 31, 2007, treated and discharged on June 4, 2007 from San Leandro hospital. The employee sustained compound fracture of the right ankle.
