Employee Amputates Finger While Repairing Conveyor Belt

On January 11, 2007, Employee #1 was repairing a conveyor belt, while leaning across the moving belt and standing on a section of round electrical conduit. Without deenergizing the conveyor, he removed the guard from the chain drive motor. His feet slipped off the electrical conduit, causing him to lose his balance. One of his fingers contacted the in-running nip point of the chain and sprocket of the conveyor, causing the laceration of its tip.
