Employee Amputates Finger While Unjamming Power Saw

On March 29, 2006, Employee #1 was working for a manufacturer of countertops. He was using a Powermatic table saw to cut a piece of solid surface, when the workpiece got jammed or lodged in the blade. Employee #1 lifted the blade guard and reached over past the blade to extricate the piece of solid surface. The fourth (ring) finger and thumb of the hand he was extending came into contact with the blade, and his ring finger was amputated. He was hospitalized.
