Employee Amputates Hand While Using Milling Machine

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on September 7, 2006, Employee #1 was operating an Okuma (Model Number MX-45VAE) milling machine squaring a setup block. Employee #1 finished a "manual" cut on the CNC and did not stop the spindle before reaching inside the machine to deburr the cut. Employee #1 failed to turn off the power to the machine. Employee #1's left hand was grabbed and pulled into the cutting tool, partially amputating the knuckles on the left hand. Employee #1 was treated for his injuries but was not hospitalized.
