Investigation Summary
On April 15, 2006, Employee #1, hostler driver for an intermodal railroad facility, was moving intermodal containers throughout the container railroad yard. Hostlers are light diesel tractor trucks, which steer rail cars that containers are loaded onto. As a crane operator was placing a container on a rail car, Employee #1 began convulsing on the ground near the rail car, where the container was positioned. Emergency services were called and, upon arrival, emergency medical personnel attempted to resuscitate Employee #1 with no success. Employee #1 died. An autopsy was performed by the Jackson County Medical Examiner, determining his death to be due to natural causes.
