Event: 01/18/2006
Employee Is Killed in Fall Through Ship Deck

Using two separate worker crews, Corrosion Control Specialists, Inc. was sandblasting and painting the interior of the cargo tanks of a ship that was in dry dock. After the sandblasting operation was completed, the clean up crew would enter and clean up the sandblasting materials in preparation for painting. Employee #1, who was on the night shift clean-up crew, climbed down into the vessel's totally dark starboard fuel bunker tank looking for brushes. Approximately 15 feet into the bunker tank was a first-level deck opening into which Employee #1 fell. Employee #1 fell approximately 30 feet to the bottom of the fuel bunker tank and was killed.
