Two Employees Are Injured When Wall Collapsed

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on October 26, 2006, Employees #1 and #2 were working on a welded frame scaffold performing masonry duties. They were topping out a 12-in. masonry wall, when the top five courses laid that day fell on top of the employees. It was found that the 22 foot tall wall and 129 foot in length had not been braced. The day was sunny with moderate winds at an approximate 15 mph with temperatures in the mid 40's. The employees were taken to the hospital. Employee #1 was treated and released, and Employee #2 was kept for observations and suffered a broken leg. The employer did have a bracing procedure for masonry walls but was not followed by the foreman on the work site lower 15 foot of the wall contained rebar and mortar in the cores of the blocked wall. Instillation of masonry block was the regular assigned task of the employees.
