Investigation Summary

On September 15, 2005, Employee #1, Lead Framer, was standing on the unfinished deck of the second floor single family residence approximately 10 ft from the ground when he stepped on a piece of shear. The shear broke and he fell to the floor of the garage. He struck a laminated beam that was sitting on the floor of the garage. Employee #1 was seriously injured and taken via ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center. He was hospitalized for 5 days with broken ribs, punctured lung, head trauma and broken shoulder blade. The employer was not required by CCR, T8 to require fall protection for employees working 10 ft from the ground while performing wood framing operations.
