Investigation Nr: 202549747
Event: 09/19/2008
Employee's Hand Is Cut by Saw Blade, Finger Tip Is Amputated

On September 19, 2008, Employee #1 was working for a cabinet manufacturer, installing cabinetry in apartments. He was ripping a cabinet filler strip and as the cut approached the end of the strip, it bound up. As the employee forced the strip into the saw blade, his left hand slipped off his feather board and struck the saw blade. He was transported to UCI Medical Center and treated for cuts to his left index, middle and ring fingers. Later, his index finger tip had to be amputated, mid way into the nail. Employee #1 was hospitalized. The employee said that the Craftsman 10.5 in. table saw blade was guarded and the splitter and anti kickback were properly attached. He also stated that he was using a push stick.
