Employee Is Injured in Fall from Roof

On June 5, 2007, an employee and three coworkers were reroofing for a 2-story single family residence. They had finished laying plywood sheeting and were in the process of marking chalk lines to facilitate nailing the plywood onto the rafters. As the employee was setting up a string to make a chalk line, he inadvertently stepped off the edge of the second story roof. While falling, he hit a roof projection at the first story at 8-ft below the top and finally he hit the concrete patio floor another 9 ft-3-in. below the first story roof, with a total fall of 17-ft-3-in. The employee suffered multiple fractures to various parts of his body, including some skull and facial fractures. He was hospitalized for two weeks.
