Event: 09/03/2006
Employee Is Killed in Fall from Crane Runway

On September 3, 2006, Employee #1, an electrician, was working on top of an overhead crane with a crew of seven coworkers replacing a sheave assembly. As the crew was finishing up the job, Employee #1 descended the crane to the crane runway below to help receive materials from the other workers who remained on top of the crane. Employee #1 fell approximately 86 ft from the edge of the crane runway to the floor below, killing him. Employee #1's coworkers did not see him fall. Employee #1 was not wearing a safety harness with a lanyard, apparently unattached to any point on the crane runway.
