Employee killed when caught between two trailers

At approximately 2:00 a.m. on September 15, 2005, Employee #1 was hitching two trailers in a tandem configuration to a switch tractor he was operating that is used to move loaded trailers to various staging areas of the truck yard. Employee #1 completed the task of connecting the two trailers together and had connected the air lines in order to charge the brakes, when the tractor and first trailer moved backwards, pinning him between the first trailer and an adjacent trailer that was parked next to the second tandem trailer. Another employee discovered Employee #1 pinned between the two trailers and moved the switch tractor forward to free Employee #1. Employee fell to the ground upon being released. Employee #1 sustained severe blunt head trauma and was declared dead at the scene.
