Employee Struck by Bus Mirror

Employee #1, of the City of Annapolis Department of Public Works, was walking alongside the curb of a street placing trash cans out along the street to be picked up by a garbage truck which was a block away. Employee #1 was wearing a hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves and a reflective safety vest as required by the employer. He was also wearing reflective rain pants. As per normal procedure, one employee stays ahead of the truck to bring trash cans from the residential yards to the curbside for pick up. While walking alongside of the street the Employee #1 was struck in the back of the head by the side mirror of a city bus. The bus was entering a work where the street narrows from two lanes to one. The bus was in the non-merging lane of traffic. Employee #1 was treated for a concussion and contusions to his back and legs but was not hospitalized.
