Employee Dies from Heart Disease

At approximately 7:15 a.m. on November 4, 2005, Employee #1 was standing at the check shack of a facility that loaded concrete products. The shack is a station where departing contract haulers are checked as they leave the facility to ensure that they have the proper materials and loading. He was waiting for a coworker to let him in the yard safety office. The coworker turned around to see Employee #1 falling backward to the ground. Employee #1's eyes had rolled back, and his body was shaking. The coworker called emergency medical services; they arrived approximately ten minutes later. Employee #1 was transported to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:30 a.m. on November 4, 2005.
