Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202355939
Event: 06/30/2005
Employees are injured when Wall Collapses

On June 30, 2005, Employees #1 and #2 were manually lifting a wood-framed exterior (balloon) wall 12 feet wide by 18 feet tall, when the kicker blocks on the exterior of the house became detached from the house, causing the (balloon) wall to fall and injure Employees #1 and #2. Employee #1 sustained a sprained back and was hospitalized. Employee #2 sustained a bruised femur. Investigation of the matter found that the wall weighed approximately 984 pounds, the employer should have used a crane of the proper capacity to lift the balloon wall, and employees should have been trained in the hazards and precautions of lifting balloon walls.
