Event: 05/18/2007
Employee Is Killed Between Bucket and Cab of Skid Steer

On May 18, 2007, Employee #1 was working for a paving contractor operating a Scat Trak skid steer, Model Number 2300D. The skid steer is designed with a seat bar and a bucket reset button that are interlocked with the controls. The safety devices on the skid steer were not operable. Employee #1 exited the operator seat to unhook a chain that was attached to the bottom of the cab. In doing so, he was positioned under the bucket that was loaded with asphalt. He yelled and coworkers turned to see him caught between the bucket and the cab. He was able to reach the bucket controls and freed himself. Employee #1 died.
