Investigation Summary
On March 3, 2004, an employee who had been operating a floor scrubber for approximately 45 minutes lost consciousness and hit a telephone pole while driving the scrubber between two buildings on the work site. Coworkers responded, lowered the employee to the ground and started cardio pulmonary resuscitation. Emergency medical services arrived and took over cardio pulmonary resuscitation. They transported the employee to Salem Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The coroner was not informed that the death took place at work; therefore there was no autopsy. The employee was morbidly obese and suffered from diabetes. The presumptive cause of death was a heart attack.
