Event: 01/13/2006
Employee Is Injured When Nail Gun Discharges Into Leg

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on January 13, 2006, Employee #1, a carpenter apprentice and part time employee, was operating a Hitachi pneumatic nail gun, Model Number NR83A, to install floor joists on the second floor of a building. As he reached down for another joist, with the nail gun hanging on his nail bag belt, the nail gun discharged a 3.25-inch, 16 point, into the back of his right leg just below his knee. Employee #1 was taken to the Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California, where he underwent surgery. The accident investigation revealed that the push-lever safety spring of the nail gun came into contact with the back of Employee #1's leg, causing it to fire.
