Employee Is Burned When Accidently Splashed by Phenol

On August 26, 2004, an employee was starting DNA isolation reparation at the UCSF Department of Stomatology. The employee was drawing a chloroform and phenol solution for the procedure into a centrifuge tube when some dripped onto his glove. The tube slipped out of the employee's hand and splashed onto his right forearm and pants. The employee was treated at UCSF Medical Center Emergency Room and evaluated and later sent to St. Francis Hospital and spent two days in the burn care unit for chemical burns to the right forearm and groin areas.
