Employee killed by hit-and-run driver

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on February 10, 2004, Employee #1 was attempting to locate an electro- magnetic signal with a hand-held receiver on the south bound lanes of Highway 55 when he was struck by a vehicle. Employee #1 died of head injuries. Neither the vehicle nor the driver were identified. This electro-magnetic signal was being emitted by a transmitter which was located in a boring machine drill head. This signal tells the operator of the boring machine the relative location of the boring drill head which is needed to assure the proper positioning of the hole.
