Employee Fractures Left Hip in Fall

On August 16, 2008, an employee, a machine technician was working alone with a Waterbury Flat Roll Machine located at the worksite and tightening a nut on the machine with a box wrench. The box wrench slipped off the nut, causing the employee to fall to the concrete ground. As the employee fell, he hit a metal pan that catches oil surrounding the machine, causing him to sustain a fracture of the left hip. The employee's supervisor was not in the area at the time of the incident, but was aware that the employee was working with the machine. The employee was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and was treated for the fracture of the left hip. The employee underwent surgery and was hospitalized for four days.
