Investigation Summary
On August 24, 2008, an employee was operating an electric powered circular saw to cut on a wooden door when the accident occurred. The employee removed the door from the frame and hinge and placed the end to be cut on top of a 4-foot step ladder. The other end of the door was on the floor, resulting in a slanted door. After cutting one-half across the width of the door, it began to slide off the step ladder. The employee's initial reaction was to grab the door and while doing so his fingers made contact with the running blade of the circular saw. The employee sustained lacerations and an amputation to fingers on his left hand. The employee was hospitalized for three nights for treatment to his injuries at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena California.
