Employee Sprains Both Legs When Slabs Falls

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on April 3, 2007, an employee was working with a forklift driver to move an eight feet long weighing approximately 120 pounds slab of granite, called 743. The company did not have any procedures for moving these slabs, nor were their forklift drivers trained and certified. As the employee attempted to secure one slab onto to the forklift, the remaining slabs of granite fell on his legs. Approximately seven slabs fell on his legs. His supervisor was on site at the time of the incident. The employee was transported by the Emergency Medical Services to Santa Anita Hospital in El Monte, CA. He remained in the facility for approximately four hours and was released. He was treated for sprains to both legs.
