Investigation Summary
At approximately 8:30 a.m. on April 2, 2007, an employee, a carpenter was working alone installing a twenty-five feet metal strip to the top of a window frame, approximately eighteen feet off the ground at a construction site. The employee removed the temporary guardrails and climbed on top of the window sill. He was not utilizing any personal fall protection equipment or procedures. He pulled tightly to secure the metal strip and was nailing it in, when he fell approximately eighteen feet landing on his feet to the dirt ground below. The employee's supervisor was not in the area at the time of the incident. The employee was transported by emergency medical services to County USC Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA. He remained in the facility for approximately one week and underwent surgery for fractures to both legs.
