Employee's Finger Is Amputated in Conveyor

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on March 21, 2007, Employee #1 was working alone in a packaging area. His line stopped and he called the maintenance department and proceeded to incline conveyor filler Number 3. He reached under the incline conveyor to the other side to push the bottles, and the conveyor started up. He slipped and tried to catch himself. His right pinky finger was caught in the conveyor's side belt drive motor, which was unguarded and less than 7 ft from the ground. He was not authorized to un-jam bottles, but it's a common practice to get the line started. His pinky finger was amputated and he was hospitalized.
