EMPLOYEE RUN OVER BY BACKING INDUSTRIAL TRUCK

AT APPROXIMATELY 11:50 AM ON MAY 30, 1986, AN EMPLOYEE BACKED A MECHANIC'S VEHICLE (#155, ORG. LIC. #:T394942, PUC: #CAX559) DOWN AN OLD SPUR ROAD TO A WATER TANKER TRUCK. HE AND ANOTHER EMPLOYEE INTENDED TO DO MAINTENANCE WORK ON THE WATER TRUCK. WHEN THEY HEARD A GURGLING SOUND, ONE OF THE EMPLOYEES BEGAN TO LOOK FOR THE SOURCE OF THE SOUND. HE FOUND EMPLOYEE #1 LYING UNDER THE MECHANIC'S VEHICLE. HE APPARENTLY HAD BEEN LYING JUST OFF THE EDGE OF THE SPUR ROAD, RESTING. HE WAS NEVER SEEN BY THE DRIVER OF THE MECHANIC;S VEHICLE AS IT WAS BEING BACKED DOWN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE DRIVER, A FORMER EMT, CHECKED EMPLOYEE #1 FOR VITAL SIGNS AND FOUND NONE. THE EMPLOYEES RADIOED FOR HELP AND A HELICOPTER WAS DISPATCHED TO THE SCENE. IT ARRIVED AT 11:04. EMPLOYEE #1 WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE SACRED HEART HOSPITAL IN EUGENE, OREGON. EMPLOYEE #1 WAS DECLARED DEAD WHILE EN ROUTE TO THE HOSPITAL.
